Bits from last weekend

Look what I found at Safeway!! Do you remember these shows?! I can see how Mr. Bill would be a good dog toy, but Lambchop??? I didn't buy them, but I kind of want to add them to my stuffed aminal collection. Yes, I said aminal and no that wasn't a typo.

Went to my nephew's 20th birthday dinner on Friday night. There was actually a live band on the opposite side of the restaurant. A really bad live band... Food was great though! I've never heard of apple butter before, but omg it is gee-double-oh-dee GOOD ^___^  There was all kinds of tri tip, ribs, sirloin, blah blah blah. And being a vegetarian, I was beginning to be regretful of coming. But thankfully most places have great options like they actually had a veggie burger, shrimp meals, and catfish. I went with the BBQ shrimp and garlic mashed potatoes. Delicioso!!!

Saturday I got up 'round 9AM to get ready for a full day. I opted for all of my brightest things! I don't have t pictured but I wore a rainbow dress, orange bag, rainbow/silver earrings, hot pink lipstick, and sparkly pink bow! My sister invited me to spend the day with her at a food festival called the "Eat Real Food Festival" in Jack London Square and to the Jamaican street market in Berkeley. I felt that bright colors were an absolute requirement.

My sis and I went to her BFF's house to get her make up done and take some photos for her website. And then it turned into a mini photoshoot for her friends side business! We had a lot of fun. So much laughter went on at her house. It's funny how you can tell people are best friends. They both act like the same person- total goofballs.
After that was over, I met up with my other sister and my nephew and headed out to the market.

All the colors, beads, woods, and just the overall ethnic feel of everything was so great. I loved getting to hang out and bond some more with my older sister :)<3 I got a lot of inspiration from that street market. OH! And there was music!! So much music. On the far end of the lot there was a huge circle of guys with drums (many of them had been handmade by them!) and they were JAMMIN! I mean it was so cool to see everyone really feeling the music. There were some hippies hanging out just off to the side too. Men and women with very strange clothes and unwashed hair hula-hooping like mad. I'm not judging- do yo thang girl. I love hula-hooping myself. But it did make me giggle.

Some hours later we headed off to the food festival. I'm mad that I didn't think to take pictures but there was so much commotion I guess I just forgot. Anyway, food trucks everywhere you turned all with cute names and pretty decorated trucks to boot! Shut You're Hole (donuts & donut holes), Me So Hungry (sliders), Grilled Cheese Bandits, Bite-Size Happiness (mochi ice cream), and about 16 more I can't remember. *Mental note, take pictures of cool things every time you go out*

Sunday was laundry day. Womp womp. I watched Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited on BBC which was cool because it gave me some insight on the doctors 7 & 8. Dad brought me candy, and then I almost killed the dog because I left it out on the table while I fell asleep (it was chocolate. But she's alive I swear!). Dad got a lil mad but I argued that I did not kill her and even if I had it would have been an accident *wink* and proceeded to eat more chocolate. Chocolate that i stole from my mom I might add.

While I'm half-writing this post half-cleaning the living room I found MORE chocolate in my purse!!! It's from the restaurant from Friday night! You know how some places give little mints or something as you leave? Well, this place had full sized tootsie pops! Technically, you're only supposed to take one. But the waitresses will look the other way if you take more. So I did. I took 3 without shame.

That concludes my weekend! Now I'm gonna make tea and paint my nails.
XOXOXO

Playing dress up at Target

Every now and then while I'm out and about I'll try a ton of clothes on that I have NO intentions of buying just as a feel-good experience. Last week I was doing some paperwork and I told my mom I'd be about 40-60 minutes so she could go run her errands until it was time to come back and get me. It didn't take as long as I anticipated so while I waited for my dear mother to come bqack I hopped on over across the parking lot and ran around through Target (one of my favorite places). I don't usually buy clothes here because... well idk why actually. But I haven't bought clothes here in quite a while. I saw a lot of pretty dresses on the juniors racks so I decided to snatch 'em up!!!

Window shopping and playing dress up are some of my favorite things :)

Have a great day guys!

Sunday Social - Jobs!

Hey errybody :) I hope you're doin well! Considering the fact that first day of my new job is actually tomorrow, this week's Q's are very appropriate :D

1. What is your dream job?
Homemaker. I know this sounds like a cop out. Oh, no thanks. I don't want to work for a living, I'll just vacuum the floors and eat bon bons while I watch my soaps. Uhhhh no. My mother was/still is a homemaker and a mother of 5. And based on the demographic of bloggers in America (i.e. mommy blogs), I don't need to tell you guys that being a mom in itself is a full time job. I know what it takes, the responsibilities, the sacrifices, the energy, patience, love, attention, blood, sweat, and tears and 567932 other things that go into committing yourself to stay at home and raise a family. But since I was a little grasshopper that has been my dream.

Besides, who says I can't have my own side business at home? Helloooo that's what the internet is for!

2. If you had just won the lottery and didn’t need to work for money, what would you do with your time?
Oh man, that depends how much money I win. If it's one of those sweet 'IJustWonEnoughMoolaToSetMeUpForLife' deals then the first order of business I'd phone everyone I knew and proceed to dancing.

Live the Beyonce life for a week or two... or five.

THEN I'd pay off all my family's debts, save a few million for my kids' futures, donate to my favorite charities and travel for the rest of my life indulging in whatever. I feel like that sounds so Miss-USA-pageant-y, but oh well.

3. What piece of career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
If you decide you want to work in retail you absolutely need patience and good people skills. If you are short-tempered, you don't like people bugging you with a bunch of questions, or you can't handle a little attitude now and then, and you're not willing to go the extra mile for your customers- PICK A DIFFERENT CAREER! Nobody likes going to a store or something and dealing with a rude and unfriendly employee. You have to be a people person to work with people or it ain't gon work.

4. What would be your ideal “just for fun” job?
In my area there are organizations that let you be a Disney princess/ Disney character for children's parties. It's basically like being paid to dress up and pretend to be your favorite princess! PLUS you get to go out to a birthday party or picnic for a bunch of little kids and have fun! How cool right? Dreams do come true!!!

5. What was your first “real” job?
I was an intern at a green energy nonprofit. It was pretty cool, I learned a LOT made a bunch of new friends. I had recently turned 18 and was quickly promoted to a real 9-5 position and was given so much responsibility. I'm really thankful for that job because I got a lot of exposure to the 'working world' or should I say 'real world.'

Twistin' the night away - Vintage Inspired Pants - Butterick B5895

I AM OBSESSED WITH THESE PANTS!
I plan on making many many more of these babies :)

Now, you know I don't like to really wear pants. But the exceptions are high waist, tailored dress pants, and anything that makes my butt look big+my legs long (don't laugh!) Last month while hangin around the fabric store I came across another gem by Gertie. Patterns by Gertie Butterick B5895. So I ran over to the cabinet where the patterns are kept and I found em! They only had two left so I'm glad I didn't wait or there would be one unhappy Ebone in the world.

This was actually intended to be a practice-run but they turned out so great! I feel very 60's today. Which is probably because I've been listening to Sam Cooke's albums all day while sewing. But I digress, the fit is perfect and my waist looks ridiculous. Win! The only thing that sucks is that I didn't use something with stretch, otherwise I know they'd fit even better without any of that bagginess in the legs of the pants. This is just a yellow cotton with vertical white pinstripes. I can hardly wait to get my hands on some stretch denim! I didn't make the button down crop top that is also in the pattern. I just wore a black top I already had, funny though because it's pretty close! You'll definitely be seeing variations of these in the future :) 5 stars!

What's in my everyday bag?!

So I completely forgot about linking up for the Sunday Social this week BUT I wanted to do this anyway. We're all a bit nosy (go on and admit it) And I love the 'What's in my bag' tag on YouTube. Like, I honestly don't know what it is about it that compels me to watch 73 videos of girls with janky handbags talk about the crazy mess inside. Whatever, I guess it's just a girl thing! Off we go!

1. What is your favorite handbag you’ve ever owned?
Hmmm well that's an easy one! My infamous orange tote/messenger bag from F21 I bought when I was 16. This baby has been with me through it all! It doesn't look like much but it's so bright and so roomy! When I was in high school it carried my notebooks, papers, pens, makeup bag, EVERYTHING! After about 4 1/2 year I'd say my baby is down right indestructible :) You wouldn't think it could hold much but believe me, I could smuggle triplets into Mexico no problemo.

2. What is your dream handbag you lust over?
This Hello Kitty tote from Loungefly *drools* Every purse I have (with the exception of dainty little shoulder bags) HAS to be durable, light-medium weight, big enough for me to fit my entire life into (or at least an extra pair of shoes if needed), and very very CUTESY. This one fits the bill. And while I'm at it, there's a wallet I'd love to have as well. Same brand, Loungefly. But it's Minnie Mouse and it has an attached kiss lock coin purse!

3. What are the daily essentials in your purse or work bag?
Chapstick, camera, phone, a pen, $$$, gum, *feminine products* because you just never know, if I have heels on I'll bring a pair of flats and of course my wallet. NON-NEGOTIABLE!

Friday Letters #1

Dear rainclouds, I'm not ready for you yet. However, it would really suck to have to deal with rain around Thanksgiving time... So if you don't mind can you please just get it over with now? Because you're making it hard for me to get dressed in the A.M. when you creep around all morning only to completely disappear in the afternoon.

Dear September, you came and went so fast! You're almost over but I can't say that I'll miss your wishy-washy transitional weather. Syonara.

Dear Fox.com, why do I have to be a member to watch the episode of New Girl I missed last week?!

Dear Netflix, can you pretty please with a cherry on top put all the latest seasons of my favorite shows on? You get me all hyped up on the first 7 seasons and then leave me hanging. I MEAN COME ON!!! I thought we had something special!

Dear Mexican grocery stores, I LOVE YOU FOREVER. I have been cheating on my usual grocery spots for a few years now and I think it's time you an I make it official. +You have the best tomatoes ever.

Dear Doctor Who, after catching up on all your seasons I have officially become a Whovian. But I still don't know how I feel about 12. We'll see how it goes after the first few episodes.

Bring me flowers and talk for hours OOTD

Yeahhh, I've got nothing to say here. I felt really pretty in my clothes today and I just wanted to show it!
That's it and that's all.

I hope YOU felt great about yourself today too!!
