Sunday Social - Jobs!

Hey errybody :) I hope you're doin well! Considering the fact that first day of my new job is actually tomorrow, this week's Q's are very appropriate :D

1. What is your dream job?
Homemaker. I know this sounds like a cop out. Oh, no thanks. I don't want to work for a living, I'll just vacuum the floors and eat bon bons while I watch my soaps. Uhhhh no. My mother was/still is a homemaker and a mother of 5. And based on the demographic of bloggers in America (i.e. mommy blogs), I don't need to tell you guys that being a mom in itself is a full time job. I know what it takes, the responsibilities, the sacrifices, the energy, patience, love, attention, blood, sweat, and tears and 567932 other things that go into committing yourself to stay at home and raise a family. But since I was a little grasshopper that has been my dream.

Besides, who says I can't have my own side business at home? Helloooo that's what the internet is for!

2. If you had just won the lottery and didn’t need to work for money, what would you do with your time?
Oh man, that depends how much money I win. If it's one of those sweet 'IJustWonEnoughMoolaToSetMeUpForLife' deals then the first order of business I'd phone everyone I knew and proceed to dancing.

Live the Beyonce life for a week or two... or five.

THEN I'd pay off all my family's debts, save a few million for my kids' futures, donate to my favorite charities and travel for the rest of my life indulging in whatever. I feel like that sounds so Miss-USA-pageant-y, but oh well.

3. What piece of career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
If you decide you want to work in retail you absolutely need patience and good people skills. If you are short-tempered, you don't like people bugging you with a bunch of questions, or you can't handle a little attitude now and then, and you're not willing to go the extra mile for your customers- PICK A DIFFERENT CAREER! Nobody likes going to a store or something and dealing with a rude and unfriendly employee. You have to be a people person to work with people or it ain't gon work.

4. What would be your ideal “just for fun” job?
In my area there are organizations that let you be a Disney princess/ Disney character for children's parties. It's basically like being paid to dress up and pretend to be your favorite princess! PLUS you get to go out to a birthday party or picnic for a bunch of little kids and have fun! How cool right? Dreams do come true!!!

5. What was your first “real” job?
I was an intern at a green energy nonprofit. It was pretty cool, I learned a LOT made a bunch of new friends. I had recently turned 18 and was quickly promoted to a real 9-5 position and was given so much responsibility. I'm really thankful for that job because I got a lot of exposure to the 'working world' or should I say 'real world.'

Completed and failed goals of June

Remember when I had a list of goals for June?
  1. Find work
  2. Completely clean my apartment
  3. Purge my closet, again
  4. Avoid chocolate! (I'm allergic, but still very much addicted) MAJOR FAIL
  5. Walk 5 miles (not all at once, but over the entire month) The farthest I walked was to the end of the driveway to get into the car...
  6. Make some baby items for my very pregnant sister
  7. Visit with my grandparents whom I haven't seen in a few months *granddaughter fail* On July19, I'll see them. So not a total fail, right?
  8. Get my behind to the library and find at least 3 new books to read Yeah, I set myself up to fail on that one.

4 outta 8 ain't half bad. Well, technically it is actually half bad. But it's also half good!

1: I'm now working with my dad // 2: a clean house is a clean mind // 3: I donated plenty of things to some very deserving people // 4: I have lots and lots to show and tell next week!!!

Summer Lovin' Snail Mail Swap!!

The actual factual reveal day went live on the lovely Kelly's blog The NO Drama Mama on Monday. Can you guess who my partner was? None other than Kelly herself! Lol how cool is that, right?! As usual, I'm late to the party. BUT ALAS FAIR MAIDENS- I have the sacred package in my possession! And it has definitely exceeded my expectations! So grateful for the experience, thank you so much Kelly <3
Can we just take a moment to appreciate her wrapping skillz? And just look at the cute notes she attatched!

the sandals fit to a T! Gracias!
I laughed out loud on that one :D

And I don't know how in the world you knew, or maybe you're psychic, but I broke my favorite sunglasses a few weeks ago and I was so sad! (don't ask why I kept them, I think I have a hoarding problem. eeek!) But these adorable polka dotted ones are like a carbon copy!! And they happen to be sturdier (is that a word?) than my old pair too.

Holy moly, I couldn't be more appreciative. And I can't say thanks enough Miss Kelly! This lil box has put such a smile on my face and really made my day week month SUMMER!

Just goes to show, you never know what something small can do for a person.

Random Wedesday!

So if you're participating in the Blog Every Day in May challenge, like so many of us, you'll find it hard to blog literally every day! Just me? Oh okay.
I was doing a pretty good job at the start of the month... until my internet went out for almost 2 weeks :( But I'm back with a vengeance! lol Not really, but I'm back into the swing of blogging!!
------------------------------

If you know me you know I HATE wearing pants. Don't ask why... So I took a pair that I found while scourging through the thrift store a while ago and made it into a skirt. The waistband is elastic but it's loose enough that it sits comfortably on my hips but tight enough that they don't fall off! I don't know what to call the print. Nautical? Tribal? Whatever it is I like it, not bad for $3.
------------------------------
I finally got around to sending off my pen pal letters! At first, I couldn't find any stamps. Which was crazy because it seems like there's always a book of stamps lying around my house somewhere! Good grief, whenever I need something it's nowhere to be found. When I don't need it, it's all I see! Oh life, you and your irony. After I went out and bought stamps I caught the post-man as he was coming to drop off mail. I handed them all off to him with a huge smile on my face! Lol I'm sure he thought I was a little loopy but whatever. Who wouldn't be excited to write to their pen pals?! Not you? Well, you don't deserve a pen pal.

A couple things I'm excited for! One not so much...

A few things I wanna talk about but first things first- I hope you're having a FANTASTIC day/night/whatever time you're reading this :)

When I was a kid I always thought that book clubs were for old moms and grandmas that had nothing to do in between their monthly knitting circles meet-ups. As I got older and started falling in love with books I realized that there is something so so special about not only reading books, but reading books alongside friends and getting to share in the whole experience as a group. (Does this sound a lil too cray? Okay sorry...) Anyway, I actually wanted to be a part of a book club! So I joined one in high school but they read books I cared nothing for and were a bit snobby. Nothing worse than the intellectual-snob, right? So I went ahead and had a book club with just me read a million and one books on my own.

But that was then, and guess what I found while reading some of my new favorite blogs?

That's right! A blogger book club! How cool is that!? It starts next month, June. And we're starting off with The Help by Kathryn Stockett. You can click the button or visit Melissa @ A Mile in Her Boots if you want to join us. And you know you want to :)

The next thing I'm excited about is, as a young woman who has struggled with this her entire life, very very special to me. And I'm sure will be special and meaningful for you as well. If you've never heard of We Speak Now it is an amazing non-profit organization that aims to empower young women.

"On May 8th, 2013 25 women bloggers are speaking out against women empowerment struggles."

So Mothers Day is almost here and lo and behold, my mother is out-out-state for the next week. As of now she's only been gone 8 hours and I'm already having withdrawals! I'm so used to seeing and talking to her everyday! But I know she's having fun on her well-deserved vacation. Maybe I'll have her do a post on Mothers Day? Idk she might be busy having too much fun to do that! We'll see...
Take care everyone!
